ALROSA’s unit says plans to reduce diamond output in 2020 by 37%

MOSCOW, May 26 (PRIME) -- Almazy Anabara, a subsidiary of Russian diamond mining giant ALROSA, has launched the washing season of 2020 at its alluvial mines, and plans to produce 3.3 million carats of diamonds this season, or 36.5% less that a year ago, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The company is engaged in seasonal production of alluvial diamonds in the Arctic regions of Yakutia’s northwest. “In the season that has begun, the company plans to produce more than 3.3 million carats of diamonds and about 100 kilograms of by-product precious metals,” the statement read.

In the 2019 season, the company’s diamond output fell by 5% on the year to almost 5.2 million carats.
